Campus Kicks Off Another Season of Intramural Football

With a favorite intramural sport beginning this week, the excitement is at an all-time high.

This week’s games were fantastic to watch. It started with Delta Gamma Sigma’s B team vs. Kappa Sigma Tau’s B team. While the first half was close, with Delta only leading by seven, the second half was a lot different. Delta took control of the game and continued to run up the score, winning 20-0. It definitely wasn’t the start to the season Kappa wanted, but coming off a championship win in softball, they aren’t a team (A or B) to take lightly.

Later into the night, Delta A played the Old Guys, and their age might be starting to show. Delta held control of the game the entire night and took an astounding 40-0 win over the Old Guys.

Jackson Ortiz had this to say: “It was a great game, but at the end of the day, it’s really just a practice run for the rest of the season. We have plenty of places to look for improvement.”

We can see Delta hopes to improve from this first game and isn’t expecting an easy season.

While Delta and the Old Guys played, Chi Lambda Phi B2 and Alpha Gamma Omega B had a game as well. It was a great game to watch, and there was some fantastic sportsmanship from people willing to come out, support and help Alpha by playing for them. In the end, Chi took the win. While it wasn’t for points, it was still an awesome game.

Chi A also played against Freshmen A guys that night. This was a fantastic game, close until the very end. Both teams had some highlight moments, and while it was extremely close, the freshmen scored in the last few seconds to secure a victory over Chi and start their season off strongly. It’s always important to remember these first games often don’t define any team. With Chi as last year’s football champions, they may regroup and be ready for next week. The freshmen, however, with their overwhelming start, will have all eyes on them.

On the women’s side, Gamma Rho A started the season off hot with a crazy 46-0 win against their sisters, Gamma B. Their performance looks great at the start of their season, and they have some ground to make up after losing to Lambda Chi Zeta in softball, so maybe that lit a bit of a fire under them.

To end the night, Chi B and Freshmen B played, and Chi was able to secure the victory over the freshmen, a sort of trade-off from the first game. Both teams looked great and should have a great season ahead.

Theta Theta Theta and the freshmen girls played the last game, and despite the freshmen girls having the numbers, Theta was able to come away with the win. This was no doubt a huge moment for Theta and will hopefully continue throughout the season.
