President John deSteiguer’s Message to the International Community

To our international students and other members of the OC family,

We know many of you are anxious in the wake of President Trump’s executive order on immigration. We are monitoring developments as the White House and federal agencies release more information and clarify new policies stemming from the executive order.

International students – We want you to know we love you and we’re all in this together. We stand with you, and we stand ready to help you in any way we can. Thank you for traveling hundreds and thousands of miles away from your homes to be a part of our home here at OC. You are shining lights on this campus.

For those who may be impacted by the executive order, we suggest not traveling internationally from the United States for now. Please don’t hesitate to call our Office of International Programs at 405.425.5475 or visit its new office in Gaylord Hall (where Financial Services used to be located) if you have questions or need help in any way. We are happy you’re here, and we are here for you.

For more than 50 years, our Study Abroad and international exchange programs have built global connections and a global culture that make OC better. Just in the past year alone, we have been proud to have graduates from 25 different countries around the world, including Syria.

In addition, OC is part of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, and the president of the CCCU was among the Christian leaders who sent a letter to President Trump and Vice President Pence asking them to reconsider the executive order. Here is a link to that letter: http://static.politico.com/ac/e4/b93a2d7041bc8243fed19f149fd0/evangelical-letter.pdf

To the OC family as a whole, please lift up the world’s refugees in prayer. Ask God to protect them and place them where they can be blessed and be a blessing to others. Pray for our leaders and for our country in this time of transition, unrest, and confusion.

President John deSteiguer
