Henson and Jefferson Lead Delta Gamma Sigma and Gamma Rho in Intramural Championship Push

As intramural basketball continues inching closer to playoffs, both the men’s and women’s divisions are seeing tight competition, with Delta Gamma Sigma and Gamma Rho positioning themselves as serious contenders for first place.

On the men’s side, senior Teagan Henson has helped guide Delta through a challenging slate of games as the team works toward a championship appearance. For Henson, playing with Delta offers the perfect mix of competition and enjoyment.

“Playing with Delta has been a blast,” Henson said. “A great combination of having fun and competition.”

While the team has already shown strong performances, Henson believes their best game is yet to come. He credits their success to unity and shared effort.

“While we have played well there is much more we can accomplish,” he said. “One thing that we have done well is playing together as one total unit.”

Henson also highlighted the level of competition this season, noting how evenly matched games have pushed teams to elevate their play.

“My favorite part of the season so far is the fact that the competition has been well balanced at a very high level,” he said.

Beyond the action on the court, Henson emphasized the impact of Delta’s strong support system. With dozens of club members regularly filling the sidelines, the energy from teammates provides a noticeable boost.

“Definitely the importance of having the guys of your club supporting you at every game,” Henson said. “Delta is the biggest guys club on campus, so having 50 plus guys supporting the team every night gives us an added boost.”

As postseason play approaches, Henson remains focused on one goal.

“I cannot wait to compete all the way to the finals,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the women’s division, sophomore Caid Jefferson has emerged as a key contributor for Gamma, helping fuel her team’s push for first place across intramural sports.

Jefferson says playing alongside her teammates has been one of the highlights of her college experience.

“I absolutely love playing with my Gamma girls,” Jefferson said. “It’s always a blast. The girls on the court are incredibly hard working and encouraging, and we have been blessed with the best supporters. They always know how to bring the energy, and you can always count on them to be there.”

Jefferson credits Gamma’s success to the balance each player brings, along with strong communication and connection on the court.

“Each one of us brings something unique to the table, creating a well-rounded team,” she said. “In addition, our connectedness and communication is greatly contributing to our success.”

One standout moment this season came during an overtime matchup, an experience Jefferson says sharpened the team’s focus moving forward.

“My favorite part of this basketball season thus far was playing in OT,” she said. “I always love playing when the pressure is on and the game is on the line. That atmosphere can never be topped. Although we lost, I’m thankful for the setback because going into our next game with Lambda Chi Zeta, we will be better prepared.”

She added that growth later in the season matters most.

“It’s always better to be playing your best basketball further down the stretch of the season than in the beginning,” Jefferson said.

Beyond competition, Jefferson emphasized the importance of enjoying time with her teammates and embracing every moment on and off the court.

“Honestly, I’ve learned to just have fun and enjoy the moments I get to have with my gals,” Jefferson said. “They’re the absolute best, and I’m thankful I get to play one of the sports I love so dearly with such a great group of like-minded girls.”

Jefferson also shared encouragement for fellow students to get involved during their college years.

“YOCO — you only college once,” Jefferson said. “It’s important to put yourself out there and be involved when you can. It really does make all the difference. Be willing to pour into those around you and let them pour into you.”

As both divisions move closer to playoffs, Henson, Jefferson, and their teams remain focused on finishing strong. With Delta and Gamma continuing their pursuit of first place, the intramural season is shaping up to deliver an exciting finish fueled by teamwork, support, and competitive spirit.
