The women of Gamma Rho have won first place in homecoming this year, with the men of Chi Lambda Phi in second place, and the men of Kappa Sigma Tau in third place. Homecoming awards were announced following the Oklahoma Christian University men’s basketball game victory against the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, with a score of 75-72.
Ashlyn Glavan, a senior majoring in marketing and one of Gamma Rho’s homecoming directors, remarked on her club’s hard work to achieve this accomplishment.
Glavan said, “It’s been, like, hectic in a good way. I mean, you’re always busy and you’re always thinking of different ways to build the float, but the community behind all of it is so great.” Glavan said, “One of the last few nights that we were able to pomp, we had to get it done, and I had a group of girls pomping till 4am and so it’s just the community, they’re willing to give their time, and it’s just awesome. And it’s great to see everyone else’s skills come together to build something so fun, and it’s very memorable.”
Dallas Hicks, a junior majoring in digital marketing and one of Gamma Rho’s homecoming directors, expressed pride for her club’s philanthropy efforts which raised $13,000 for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO), this year’s recipient for Homecoming Philanthropy.
Hicks said, “It’s been amazing. I love all these girls, and so just to be able to win with them and see all of our hard work actually be recognized, it’s very nice. I’m just so happy… We thought we were only gonna raise like, $5,000 that was our original goal, and to reach $13,000, just within our alumni and our parents, and us, that’s just so amazing.” Hicks said, “It proves that it’s more than just money. We raised that for a foundation that actually needed it. So I’m just really proud of all of us for doing that.”
Homecoming Philanthropy raised a total of $31,172 for DSACO this year, with Gamma Rho raising just over 41% of the total amount awarded.
