The College of Business welcomes Brynn Prock as a new instructor of accounting. Prock is a Fort Smith, Arkansas native who attended Oklahoma Christian for both her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and her Masters in Accountancy.
Before working at Oklahoma Christian, Prock was working for Oklahoma City Community Foundation as an accountant. Prock said taking the job at Oklahoma Christian was a major change from her past career which required considerable prayer and thought.
“I prayed a lot and talked to a lot of trusted mentors,” Prock said. “And it felt like God had laid out a path that led me to teaching. I’ve always approached my jobs as a mission field, but working in an environment with a bunch of like-minded individuals is truly like nothing else I’ve experienced.”
Prock has worked in the accounting field for many years and is just now transitioning into teaching. She offered some advice to students who are interested in pursuing a career in the business field.
“Be open to where God is leading you, and ask for guidance from Him. In the business world, it’s so easy to feel stuck in a job, but there are so many amazing opportunities.” Prock said. “If your dream is to sit at a quiet desk all day, it’s out there. If your dream is to get out and talk to people (while still doing accounting), it’s out there. Possibilities are endless when you have an open conversation about your career with God.”
Prock offered advice to all students as they continue their journey at Oklahoma Christian.
“Be involved on campus. Go to Homecoming, Lighting of the Commons, help with Earn Your Wings, do (or cheer at) intramurals. Do all the fun things and bond with everyone else there.” Prock said. “Also, be involved in a campus ministry. Build on the friendships that you have made on campus in church. Meet your professors and preacher and campus minister. Join an adopted family. This is the easiest (and most fun) way to build an amazing community in a potentially new town.”

In addition to Prock as a new instructor in accounting, the College of Bible welcomes Ethan Laster into the Oklahoma Christian as an assistant professor of Bible.
Laster is a Fort Worth, Texas native who went on to attend Abilene Christian University for both his undergraduate degree and his masters degree. After his time at Abilene Christian, Laster and his family moved to St. Louis Missouri so he could pursue his doctorate at St. Louis University.
During his time in St Louis, Laster was taking classes, teaching and writing his dissertation, which he is actively working on. Laster said this experience gave him a taste of what he would be doing at Oklahoma Christian.
“I’ve worked in ministry, in churches and then teaching. So in some ways this job combines both of these past careers.” Laster said. “So doing the daily teaching and prepping classes is pretty normal, but getting to work closely with students, mentor them, help form them spiritually, in that sense it’s a combination of the past.”
Laster offered some advice to those interested in following a similar career path to his own.
“You have to go into it trying to be faithful and trying to be prayerful and then working hard, right?” Laster said. “Spend a lot of effort on your studies, read as much as you can, do work outside of the work that’s assigned to you. because you have to love it. It requires a lot of stamina and it requires a lot of discipline, and so including that in your kind of self understanding and in your part in your practices is important.”
Laster also encourages students to take advantage of the Christian educational environment available to them.
“I would say, lean into the formative side of your life here. Work on not just developing skills for a career, although that’s extremely important, work on developing a spiritual life. Develop habits and routines of prayer. Learn to read scripture closely and think about it deeply, and use a place like OC that wants to give you this really great education and also spiritually for you don’t neglect either side of that equation.”
Oklahoma Christian welcomes Prock and Laster to the growing staff and faculty.
