Club Unity; United Through Purpose

Club unity at Oklahoma Christian University is more than just a tradition, it’s a defining part of campus life. From service projects to spirited sporting events, the relationships built within and across clubs create a sense of belonging that extends far beyond the classroom. Students join not only to form lifelong friendships, but also to cultivate leadership, teamwork, and a shared commitment to the values which shape the Oklahoma Christian community.

The Talon reached out to all social service clubs to ask what it means to them to have unity amongst other clubs. Below are the submissions received.

President of Kappa Sigma Tau, Brayden Olson, emphasizes what it means to have club unity.

“Club unity is important because we are not called to be divisive and separate from each other. More important than being a brother or sister through a club is being a brother or sister in Christ”, Olson said. “We are called to live in harmony with each other and lift each other up, and clubs are a great opportunity to do that. Kappa always aims to lift up our members as well as the rest of campus to the best of our abilities”.

Linsey Christian, president of Lambda Chi Zeta explains the importance of pouring into clubs other than their home club.

“For Lambda, we have traditional activities with other clubs that we love, and we think are important to keep. However, we’ve been presented with new opportunities to grow with clubs that we usually don’t interact with, and I think that’s important too”, Christian said. “I feel like this year has brought a new energy to the idea of club unity and it’s really exciting to see clubs work together instead of staying isolated”.

Delta Gamma Sigma’s President, Alyxander Logan emphasizes the impact that having club members across many fields has on creating relationships.

“Our members are spread out everywhere and involved in so much. Athletes, nurses, Bible, English and business are just a few things our guys are involved with”, Logan said. “Then in all of their fields they are involved heavily in school organizations. I’ve never once had to say anything to Delta because it is so natural for them to be around new people and to get involved however they can”.

Katie Payne, Beta Beta Beta Sigma’s chaplain and social service director, illustrates what it means to be united under one main purpose.

“Even though we compete in friendly competition during intramurals, homecoming, and spring sing, our service to the community unites us, since we’re all dedicated to purposes that go beyond just our club. To me, a united club life means cheering each other on and appreciating each club’s uniqueness. Every club has its own unique strengths and ideas that it brings to the campus, and in a united club life, students recognize this and cheer on the other clubs in their own unique ambitions”.

Club unity at Oklahoma Christian plays a significant role in shaping the student experience, offering opportunities for involvement, leadership, and connection. Through shared traditions, service efforts, and inter-club activities, students engage with one another in ways that contribute to both personal and community development.
