Growth in the President’s Leadership Class

Oklahoma Christian University prides itself on training up the next generation of leaders. Behind the scenes at Oklahoma Christian, there exists a group of the next generation of Christian leaders. Students, according to Oklahoma Christian will “develop personal leadership principles that will benefit them throughout their lives” through what is known as the President’s Leadership Class (PLC).

One unique opportunity PLC provides to the students who join is the ability to participate in four service projects throughout the year. During these projects, PLC members help prospective students to find their way around campus, assist in events such as homecoming, or encourage alumni and students with kind notes. While these acts may seem small, they help Oklahoma Christian and its students continue to be kingdom builders.

Talon News sat down with the President of Oklahoma Christian, Ken Jones, for an interview about PLC. He emphasized that he has at least 80 leadership principles that he is always trying to instill in the current class. Since the beginning of the President’s Leadership Class, the size has increased immensely because of President Jones’ desire to create more community builders. President Jones remarked, “if more [students] can come, then more can learn leadership.”

The Fall 2026 semester has seen a drastic increase in the number of students participating in President’s Leadership Class. Since the beginning of the semester, the class has moved from its original location in the Gaylord Room within the Student Center to a separate larger room and finally into Scott’s Chapel, more than doubling the amount of space it had before.

“I appreciate Ken Jones’s teachings and the many service opportunities they provide to us,” Peyton Mahan, a PLC student at Oklahoma Christian said.

The students in President’s Leadership Class are constantly growing their hearts for God and for Oklahoma Christian, by putting their faith into action and serving the many students that attend Oklahoma Christian and the future students who will one day join the community. Any prospective students or high school seniors who would like to apply to be a part of the President’s Leadership class can apply online through the Oklahoma Christian Website.

President’s Leadership Class is a unique opportunity for incoming freshmen with robust academics and strong faith to lead their class through the next school year. If a student is accepted into PLC, they will receive a yearly one thousand dollar scholarship as well as valuable skills they can carry into the workforce.

As a part of PLC, students will attend four chapels a semester, each on the first Wednesday of the month. In each class, President Jones will share one of his many leadership principles with students, as well as how to implement each one into student’s own lives. Students will also participate in service opportunities around campus, doing at least two a semester, as a way to put leadership skills into practice

There are three requirements to apply to PLC: a resume, contact information for three references, and a one-minute video introducing the student. Incoming freshmen should not forget the application deadline will be Feb. 3, 2027, and on-campus interviews will be held on March 6, 2027.

If students can not make it to the on-campus interview due to being out or state or out of the country, email terri.mueller@oc.edu so adjustments can be arranged.
