A look at this year’s homecoming club themes

The Talon reached out to all of the social service club homecoming directors to share the theme they chose for this year’s overall homecoming theme: “OC on Broadway.” The following clubs submitted responses. Homecoming 2025 takes place the weekend of Nov. 7-8.

Theta Theta Theta: Legally Blonde

“Our homecoming theme is Legally Blonde, and we chose it because it’s all about confidence, determination, and breaking stereotypes, while having fun doing it. Elle Woods reminds us that you can be true to yourself and still achieve incredible things, even when others underestimate you. We love how the theme blends empowerment with pink, positivity, and style, which fits our club’s spirit perfectly. We’re most excited to bring that message to life through our decorations and energy during homecoming week, because being strong, kind, and a little extra never goes out of style.”

Lambda Chi Zeta: Mamma Mia

“Lambda’s theme this year is Mamma Mia! I chose it for the club because I knew it would represent us well. We love to dance and are always down for spontaneous singing. We all are also striving to be the best versions of ourselves, and I think the musical shows this when Sophie leaves her small Greek town because it’s not truly what she wants, even though it’s a hard decision. I also love the sisterhood portrayed over time. Sophie has her two best friends that show up for her no matter what, and her mom, Donna, has that too. I think it shows how strong our bonds can be and I love that! I am most excited for the parade and to see all the clubs’ floats and everyone there to watch! I am also super excited for the Carnival. A fun fact about the theme is that Lambda uses ABBA songs all the time. Almost every year there’s at least one in our Spring Sing show!”

Kappa Sigma Tau: Shrek

“Our theme is Shrek the Musical. We chose this theme because we figured it was a theme with a lot of room for creativity and a theme that we knew we could have fun with. Our build last year also reminded us of Shrek in a way, which is what initially put the thought in our heads. I personally am excited for the parade, I think our float will be a crowd pleaser and stays true to the source material. A fun fact is in the musical version of Shrek, Lord Farquaad is revealed to be the son of Grumpy, the dwarf from Snow White.”

Freshmen: The Lion King

“Our freshman directors chose The Lion King as our homecoming 2025 theme because it symbolizes growth, courage, and finding your place in a new world—just like Simba’s journey. As freshmen, we’re stepping into college for the first time, and we felt this story represents our adventure perfectly. We wanted a theme that’s bold, colorful, and full of energy, bringing the magic of the Pride Lands to life with sunset tones, African-inspired patterns, and the spirit of adventure. We’re especially excited to design our float and decorations with scenes from the movie—like Pride Rock, the savanna, and maybe even Timon and Pumbaa! It’s a theme that reminds us to ‘remember who we are’ as we start our college journey together.”

Delta Gamma Sigma: Aladdin

“Our homecoming theme is Aladdin. We chose Aladdin for two main reasons: first, we felt that the rambunctious energy of Aladdin running through the streets of Baghdad, as if he owned them, really exemplifies the energy of Delta here at Oklahoma Christian, especially during homecoming. Second, Kappa took Shrek. We are most excited for our float this year. We feel like our float truly encompasses what we all know and love about Aladdin. Delta has also put in the most time, effort, and money into building this year’s float compared to any of our previous years’ floats. A fun fact about our theme is that, much like the genie, Delta is known to make the wildest of dreams come true.”

Chi Lambda Phi: Seussical the Musical

“Chi Lambda Phi’s theme is Seussical the Musical this year. We chose this because of the almost unlimited creativity that Dr. Seuss provides. We are most excited to bring the color and characters to a float at Oklahoma Christian. A fun fact about our theme is that the original Broadway show flopped but it gained popularity through national tours and school renditions. We say let it grow!”

Beta Beta Sigma: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

“Our club’s theme is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We chose our musical because we liked the variety of characters our members could play as well as wanting a colorful and interactive float for the kids watching the parade. Out of all of the Homecoming festivities, we’re most excited for the Parade and Carnival.”
