Career Services Opens Updated Office for Students

Like many other offices recently relocated and updated on Oklahoma Christian University’s campus, Career Services has also moved to a new and improved location this past fall. By updating these offices, the university hopes to better serve students by increasing accessibility, improving student engagement and creating more centralized spaces.

For Charlotte Hamil, director of Career Services, the transition provides an opportunity to expand the office’s impact on campus, especially for underclassmen who may not have previously engaged with the resources.

“I serve as the director of Career Services, where I get to walk alongside students as they prepare for life after college. My role is all about helping them develop professional skills, discover their strengths, gain real-world experience, and feel confident stepping into their calling,” Hamil said. “I also plan events like career fairs, lunch and learns, and coffee chats, and provide professional development education across campus. From resumes and interviews to employer connections and career coaching, we’re here to support them every step of the way.”

The office’s relocation and update came as a welcome surprise to Hamil, marking another step toward enhancing the university’s services.

“Honestly, it was a pleasant surprise to me. There have been several offices across campus that have moved and shifted to better serve our students, and this was part of that bigger effort,” Hamil said.

Since the move, Hamil said the office has already seen an increase in students utilizing its services. The new space, combined with its location, is encouraging students to seek support earlier in their academic careers and engage more consistently over time.

“The biggest impact has been visibility and accessibility. Students are walking in more, asking questions, and engaging earlier in their college journey. That’s exactly what we want. It also ties directly into the Eagle Flight Plan, helping students stay on track with intentional steps each year so they are truly prepared by graduation,” Hamil said. “Long term, it creates a campus culture where career preparation is not something you think about senior year, but something you build from day one.”

In addition to increased student engagement, the updated Career Services office offers expanded resources designed to meet practical needs.

“I love that the space feels inviting and practical at the same time. The professional clothing closet is a standout. It’s larger, designed to feel like a retail store, and includes a new dressing room with the most options we’ve ever been able to offer,” Hamil said. “It meets a real need and gives students confidence when they step into interviews. More than anything, it’s a place where students can come in, feel supported, and take their next step forward.”

As the university continues to invest in student-focused improvements, Career Services reflects a broader emphasis on early and ongoing career preparation to better prepare students for life beyond college.
