After a fun and busy week of Spring Sing, everyone is ready for a weeklong spring break. The Talon interviewed several students who gladly shared some of their spring break plans.
Sophomore Caleb Mer is preparing for a ministry trip to California next week.
“So over Spring Break, I get the pleasure of going to Sacramento, California, on a mission trip for the organization I work for, Decision Point. Decision Point is a non-profit organization that helps mobilize and equip Christian students to share the Gospel on their campuses,” Mer said. “So while in Sacramento I will get to help 8-10 different high schools host Outreach Weeks, where these students invite their student body to come together and hear the truth of the Gospel preached. We get to help provide different things like Bibles, life books, gospel tracts, and other helpful resources for students to get to take home. The movement of the Gospel is happening all over the nation in these high schools and it is a blessing to be able to witness it firsthand. If you ever want to get involved with helping these students preach the Gospel too, reach out to me at (562)-371-4282.”
For sophomore Hailey Long, spring break will be a mix of fun activities and catching up on rest.
“I am going to the Houston Rodeo to watch the ‘Red Clay Strays.’ And then I am going to the beach for a few days with the girls. I am excited to be back home with my family and catch up on some sleep,” Long said. “I plan on studying for at least a couple of hours so I don’t completely fail my exams when I get back from break. I am trying to get my busy work done before that.”
Meanwhile, senior Couper Kerns is heading north for the week.
“I am planning on going to New York City with my girlfriend. We both love food, so we have a long list of restaurants we want to try, and weather pending, we may ski,” Kerns said. “We will also be seeing ‘Wicked’ on Broadway. I am excited to eat and ski!”
Junior Cotter Hensal will spend another spring break on Memorial Road Church of Christ’s annual skiing trip.
“I will be going to New Mexico to do a mission trip and go snowboarding. I enjoy hanging out with the kids at the children’s home just kicking a soccer ball around and getting to see how we are helping out,” Hensal said. “For the skiing part, I enjoy being with my friends going down the slopes.”
While some students are traveling far, sophomore Gracie Farley is looking forward to returning home.
“I am just going back home to Amarillo, but I’m taking my best friend from Tennessee with me, and she’ll get to meet my parents. I’m gonna take her to the Cadillac Ranch to paint the cars,” Farley said. “Yeah, we’re just going to have fun and hangout!”
Heading west for spring break, senior Hank Waterston plans to spend the week in California.
“I am going to LA to see my uncle. Probably going to the beach as well,” Waterston said. “I haven’t been to California since I was about four years old, so I am excited for that and getting to spend time with my uncle. I am planning on still doing homework. Always. I want to graduate.”
Whether you spend the break traveling far and wide or spending time at home with family, we hope your spring break is filled with rest, laughter, and warm memories to look back on.
