Long snowy weekend at Oklahoma Christian

Students at Oklahoma Christian University enjoyed a longer weekend thanks to cold weather and icy roads. The additional two days of virtual learning gave them plenty of free time.

Mattie Baird, a senior finance major, spent her time staying cozy with her roommates.

“Let’s see, I love the snow, and I’m glad that we got a lot of snow. We did a lot of fun things like snowball fights then came in for hot chocolate and card games. On Saturday, I made breakfast for my roommates and then we just hung out and played in the snow,” Baird said. “I did miss school, and Chapel because I enjoy seeing everyone, nerdy I know. But, I did get up early to say goodbye to some of the Study Abroad kids.”

Katie Albright, a freshman marketing major, enjoyed staying up late with friends and sledding on the baseball fields during the snow break.

“I had a lot of fun staying up till 1 a.m. with all my friends and sledding down the hill at the baseball fields. And we got a move-in bag and sat in it and slid down the hill,” Albright said.

Although there was time for homework, when it snows in Oklahoma, there is hardly a moment to spare. When asked about her assignments, Albright replied,

“Barely last night, I had work due at midnight, and at 11:30 I walked into the dorm to finish it and submit it all,” Albright said.

Caleb Conner, a senior mechanical engineering major, embraced the long weekend with his social club Kappa Sigma Tau.

“Kappa played snow kickball and snow football. So that was fun, and honestly, you do not really feel the cold when you are running around,” Conner said. “I feel like at times it was hard because we weren’t able to go many places. But hanging out was fun. Like not having school, but all being here, so you just hang out with friends.

When asked about his homework, he admitted that more time was spent in the snow.

“Yeah, I definitely should have done more. I did not do as much as I should have done,” Conner said.

Despite leaving some assignments incomplete, Oklahoma Christian students fully embraced the snowy long weekend and created lasting memories together.
