Spring Sing Executive Director Sarah Poage has revealed this year’s overall theme, “Let’s Go to the Movies.”
When choosing the overall Spring Sing theme, Poage said she found inspiration from some of her favorite memories.
“The overall theme is called, ‘Let’s Go to the Movies.’ I have always loved going to the movies, specifically, like an old movie theater. Something about the vibe, having some popcorn, just being able to be with your friends and family,” Poage said. “So I wanted to recreate that and also incorporate it at the same time. So all of the clubs are based on movies, and then, in general, our pictures, our marketing, our lobby, is all going to look like an old Hollywood theater.”
Poage said her family traditions also influenced the theme.
“What also kind of inspired the movie thing is growing up, my aunt and uncle always took me to the movies at Life Church, and so that also was some inspiration for the decor and the whole idea of doing movie-esque things,” Poage said. “But I think it’s just more of the memories I have of going to the movies with my friends and family and like, a really good movie coming out for the first time, and being excited on opening day and getting the snacks and the old theaters. I just really love the old theaters especially.”
Poage said she is excited to see how each club is embracing the movie theme while still making it their own.
“I think a lot of times Spring Sing kind of strays away from the movies, but I just wanted to dive completely into movies. And so I think we have a really wide range of well known shows that people are going to know and love,” Poage said. “I think there’s creativity, like they have so much creativity with these movies, costumes, lyrics, props. I think everything is going to be a feel good show. Even the hosts’ songs are also from movies, so I’m very excited.”
Poage said she has always been passionate about music.
“I have always liked music and the music world. I did show choir in high school, and when I came to Oklahoma Christian, I had the opportunity to direct the freshman Spring Sing show,” Poage said. “And from there, I just became obsessed with everything about Spring Sing. I was in a show my sophomore year, and the club coordinator last year, and then applied for executive director.”
Beyond the theme itself, Poage said her favorite part of being executive director is being involved in everything.
“I love being able to have a part in each of the roles, from club directors, the tech, the marketing, the host, and the band. It’s also fun to watch it all come together,” Poage said. “And being able to watch each individual let their talents shine in their roles. It is really cool to see it all come together and get to be a part of all of it.”
Poage said she believes the theme will appeal to a wide audience and encourages everyone to attend.
“I think all ages are gonna love it. There’s some like older classic movies and songs, and then you have some newer ones. It’s all gonna be very colorful and fun, and we’re gonna have popcorn,” Poage said. “We just have so much talent this year, and we do every year, but every single person on exec and host and band is just so talented. The directors are awesome, and we have a lot of club involvement this year with all the freshman class rushing too. So there’s just a whole new dynamic that I’m really excited about.”
Spring Sing will take place the weekend of March 6-7. Tickets will be available to purchase on the Oklahoma Christian University website soon.
