The cost of attending Oklahoma Christian University has officially risen to $25,790 per year, according to Vice President for Finance Jeff Bingham.
“We really wanted to try and keep the increases as low as we could,” Bingham said. “3.26 percent is the official increase to the average price for next year. We have been working on it for several months and the numbers were just really finalized [Feb. 12] … we realize a dollar is a dollar, so we don’t take having to put any increase in place lightly.”
The new rate includes adjustments for tuition, room and board. According to President John deSteiguer, the university makes an effort to keep prices as low as they can.
“We’re dedicated to holding prices down, even as we’re faced with higher operating expenses like rising healthcare costs,” deSteiguer said in a scheduled press release. “We know students and families will appreciate that OC is bucking the trend of the large price increases seen at many colleges nationwide.”
Undergraduate tuition prices have stayed the same for the past two years. Although next semester’s cost of enrollment will go up, Oklahoma Christian has decided to keep various functions much the same as before. For example, the university will continue to allow students to take up to 17 credit hours for base tuition per semester.
Prices on the graduate level will not increase except for new students in the school of business. For returning business graduate students prices will stay the same, but new students next fall will see a $14 increase per credit hour.
Tuition prices are decided on a yearly basis. Considering the ever increasing cost of goods and services, Bingham noted another potential tuition increase was not entirely out of the question in the school’s future.
“It will certainly be at least a year,” Bingham said. “Next fall we’ll sit down and look at enrollment and look at what things are costing us in terms of delivering what we do at OC and evaluate what the pricing would need to look like for a year after that.”
