SGA approves bylaw additions, revisions

The Student Government Association (SGA) voted to approve changes and additions to the SGA bylaws last night, Nov. 29. Revisions included the number of students allowed to participate in Spring Sing per club and the guidelines for funding requests.

The SGA approved all proposed revisions, which will go into effect next semester.

Proposal I – New By-Law

Section V. Campaigning

  1. The Elections committee shall host a campaign meeting the evening of the last day of the filing period. All candidates running for an office are required to attend this meeting and will be debriefed on the campaign regulations set forth in these by-laws. This meeting shall also allow time for the Elections committee to screen campaign materials as stated earlier in this section. If a candidate is unable to attend this meeting, it is his/her responsibility to set up a time to meet with the chair of the Elections committee. Any candidate who does not follow this regulation will not be allowed to run for office in that given election.

  1. Participants in the club shows shall be limited to full-time, non-honorary social service club members. Social service club show participants must be on the official Student Life club roster. Any exceptions must be cleared through the Spring Sing Executive Committee.

  1. Ticket sales will be limited to six tickets per ID, 1 ID per person, per purchase, on the first day of sales, with the exception of Youth Forum for matinee group ticket sales approved by the Spring Sing Executive Committee.

  1. SGA must vote to approve the Spring Sing Budget after approval by the Spring Sing staff advisor. After approval by the Spring Sing staff advisor, the Spring Sing budget must be approved by a majority vote of the Appropriations Committee, as well as a majority vote of the SGA. Part of the Spring Sing budget shall include that the Oklahoma Christian University Admissions department receive a reimbursement of minimum of $1 per ticket sold to the Saturday matinee. The Admissions department shall receive this reimbursement because of promotion costs incurred while promoting Spring Sing to seniors and church youth groups along with the Youth Forum and Spring Visit.

  1. Member requirements for club shows shall be determined by the following recommended as follows:
  • If one (1) to twelve (12) clubs wish to participate in Spring Sing then there must be at least twenty (20) and no more than ninety-five (95) members on stage at any given point in the show.
  • If thirteen (13) to fourteen (14) clubs wish to participate in Spring Sing then there must be at least twenty-five (25) and no more than ninety-five (95) members on stage at any given point in the show.
  • If fifteen (15) or more clubs wish to participate in Spring Sing then there must be at least thirty (30) and no more than ninety-five (95) members on stage at any given point in the show.

The final member requirements shall be determined by the Executive Spring Sing Committee.

  1. Final approval will be conducted as following:

Final Approval will take place on the Thursday Friday before Spring Sing. The Spring Sing Executive Committee shall have the power to modify the date of Final Approval. Clubs will perform their show, and if they fail, they will be given a minimum of two hours in which to improve their show. If they should fail their second run, they will forfeit $200 of their Spring Sing earnings.

Section XVI. Funding Requests

  1.  All of these questions must be answered in order to be considered for funding from the Student Government Association.

What is the name of your organization?

What is the name of the event you will be attending?

What is the purpose of your event?

What is the amount you are requesting from the SGA?

What other sources of funding will be used for this event?

Have you attempted to raise any outside funds for the event?

What percentage of the event total cost will the proposed amount cover?

Where is the event being held? What transportation will be available? What is the date of the event?

How many members does your group have? How many will be attending the event?

How will you publicize your event?

Will your group profit from this event? If so where do the proceeds go?

Is the event open to all Oklahoma Christian students to either attend or participate in? If not, who is the event open to?

Have you done this event in the past? If yes, what was the attendance like?

How many students do you expect to come to this event?

Please provide a proposed budget for your event; and,

  1.  In order to be considered for funding, an official SGA funding request form must be filled out in its entirety and turned into the Executive Treasurer. The official SGA funding request form shall be drafted by the Appropriations Committee at the beginning of each school year.

Proposal VIII – Revision of a Current By-Law

Section XVI. Funding Requests

  1. The SGA will fund no more than 80% 50% of the entire cost of an academic or service related conference funding request or no more than $500 per individual student attending not in excess of 80% 50% of entire cost of the said academic or service related conference or meeting funding request; and,. In extreme circumstances, the SGA can fund up to 80% of the entire cost of a funding request if approved unanimously by the Appropriations committee and by a two-thirds vote of the senate.

Proposal IX – New By-Law

Section XIX. Homecoming Student Competition

  1. The Homecoming budget must be approved by a majority vote of the Appropriations committee, as well as a majority vote of the SGA.
