Anna Arrese Cortadellas continued her hot streak, taking top honors at the Oklahoma Baptist Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.

Cortadellas was in control from the first hole to the last of the two-day tournament. This is Cortadellas’ third win in the last five events.

Cortadellas held a five-shot lead for the first day, leading her team to tie for the lead after the opening round at the Lincoln Park Golf Club. Her 3-under 68 tied for her career-best score.

At the end of day one, Oklahoma Christian University tied with rival Oklahoma City University with a team score of 303. Both teams were ahead of the competitors as Houston-Victoria came in third, 14 shots behind the two first-place team.

All of Oklahoma Christian’s five starters placed in the top 16 after the first day. Audrey Meisch posted a 77, tying for 8th and India Matthews and Catherine Odgers both posted first-round 79s to place them tied for 12th. Behind them was teammate Allison Sell, tied for 16th.

The Lady Eagles tried to hold that lead and surge for the team win on Tuesday.

Cortadellas kept up her play on the second day of the tournament, shooting a final-day 75 to give her the first-place victory by four strokes.

Oklahoma Christian finished the tourney with a team score of 613, placing second behind Oklahoma City.

As for Cortadellas with the win this week, she has now placed in the top two of her last six straight tournaments, dating back to the fall season.

Head Coach David Lynn said he had nothing but praise for Cortadellas.

“Anna won her eighth college tournament — an amazing feat — and her spring season thus far has been first, first, second, second, first,” Lynn said. “Pretty amazing.”

All of Oklahoma Christian’s starters kept their first-day rankings in the top 16, as Meisch posted a final-round 75 to tie for sixth, while India Matthews shot a final-day 78 to give her a total score of 157, a tie for ninth.

Odgers shot a second-day 82, giving her a two-day score of 161, finishing 15th. Finally, Sell was one shot back of Odgers, tied for 16th after her 82 the second day.

Lynn said most of the team used this tournament as a boost for the upcoming tournament.

“The girls just competed because the event was close to home,” Lynn said. “They enjoy playing at Lincoln and it gives them a chance to shoot some good scores. The majority of the girls just used the event as a tune-up for conference.”

The Lady Eagles will travel to the Heartland Conference Championship on April 20-21.
