Oklahoma Christian University’s relay teams and four individual runners posted national-qualifying times at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

The Eagles’ best event on Saturday proved to be the 1500-meter race. Brennym Kaelin and Sisay Gillock both qualified in this event for the National Christian College Athletic Association Track and Field national meet.

Kaelin posted a time of 4:00.26, placing him ninth in the event. Teammate Gillock finished 15th with time of 4:07.49. Kaelin also ran in the 800-meter and just missed the national-qualifying standard with his time of 1:59.18 that placed him at 13th.

Joshua Jones placed seventh in the 400-meter with a national-qualifying time of 50.09 seconds.

The Eagle 4×400 relay team, led by Jones, placed sixth with a time of 3:21.07. The team consisted of Jones, Kentrell Miller, Ryan Parker and Landon Huslig. Its time met the NCCAA qualifying standard.

Oklahoma Christian’s second 4×100 relay team posted a time of 42.80 seconds, which was a national-qualifier as well. This team consisted of Miller, Huslig, Parker and Jamal George.

Huslig also competed in his best event, the hurdles, where he posted a 15.38-second time in the 100-meter hurdles and a 54.12 in the 400-meter hurdles, which earned him second. This was the men’s team top placing from any individual on the day.

Adetoye Alao said he is excited to see what their teams can do in the playoffs this year.

“I think we have a good chance to make some noise at the national meet this year,” Alao said. “We have some very talented runners and some strong field competitors and I’m excited to see what the rest of the outdoor season holds.”

Head Coach Randy Heath said he was very pleased with the men’s team’s showing.

“I was happy with the way the men competed,” Heath said. “And what is great to see is that — I believe we still have room to improve and we can make a great, late run in the national meet.”

The Eagles will return to action Saturday at the Emporia State Relays in Kansas.
