Eagles and Lady Eagles compete in last second meet

Just before another meet, the Oklahoma Christian University men’s track team traveled to Norman, OK to compete in the Central Oklahoma Invitational Jan. 20.

Freshman Andre Norman took first place in the 200-meter with a time of 22.51, just .01 seconds ahead of second place in the 58-man field.

In the 400 meter, freshman Ian Colbert finished first in the 20-runner event at 49.19 seconds. Senior Sawyer Pehkonen placed third with a time of 49.57.

Colbert took ninth in the 60-meter at 7.05 seconds, followed by senior Austin Kruzich who finished 14th, out of the 67 runners, with a time of 7.07 seconds.

Freshman Brady Aderholt finished second out of 42 runners in the 800-meter at 1:59.47 in his first collegiate meet. Junior Tanner Cate placed 13th out of 27 in the 600-meter event, setting a new personal best with a time of 1:19.47.

The record-setting 400 meter relay team didn’t compete for the Eagles despite three of their normal members—Colbert, Norman and Pehkonen—all competing in other events.

Oklahoma Christian still had two teams compete in the relay.

The first team of Cate, sophomore Riley McKnight, junior Lawson Meredith and sophomore Kelton Reynolds finished 10th with a time of 3:33.63. The second team made up of junior Austin Davis, freshman Maurice Hill, freshman Javier Hernandez and Aderholt took 11th in the 19-team race with a time of 3:34.36.

For the Lady Eagles, sophomore Lawanda Harvey broke her own school record two times in the 60-meter.

In the preliminaries, Harvey posted a time of 7.78 seconds, beating her previous record of 7.83 set last February, to qualify for the finals. During the finals, Harvey again passed her previous time and finished sixth in the 45-woman field at 7.74, which now stands as the new Oklahoma Christian school record.

Harvey also finished fifth out of 47 in 200-meter at 26.06 seconds.

Graduate student McKenzie Stanford took first in the high jump, clearing 1.64 meters. She also placed 12th in the long jump at 4.71 meters, 15th in the 400-meter with a time of 1:05.50 and 32nd out of 60 hurdlers in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.51 seconds.

Junior Maia Zeno finished in fifth place out of 30 throwers in the weight throw with 15.55 meters, and sophomore Destiny Grace placed eighth at 14.01 meters.

Sophomore Kelsey Castillo took fourth in the 28-runner mile event, setting a personal best with a time of 5:29.25.

In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Jordyn Williams finished sixth and sophomore Ivy Lobley took second, both posting a time of 9.48 seconds.
