Strong hitting was key for the Oklahoma Christian University baseball team, who swept Northwestern Oklahoma State University 7-1 and 5-4 in a doubleheader contest, respectively.
In the first game, Jared Sterling and Zac Cobble led the Eagles offensively with two hits apiece, while senior Robert Rosser added two RBIs.
“The main thing we did today was hit the ball hard,” Rosser said. “We stayed relaxed, while playing with intensity in both games.”
Brennan Walker was on the mound for the Eagles, picking up the win with three strikeouts and allowing four hits.
Trailing 4-1 in the sixth inning of the second game, the Eagles managed two runs apiece in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to claim the win.
The Eagles took control of the game after Jake Baxter hit a two-run homerun, scoring Rosser in the sixth inning. A Sterling single in the seventh scored Brady Baugh, and Cobble scored on a past ball.
“We cruised through the first game and hit some adversity in the second,” Rosser said. “We battled, even through some poor executions and found a way to win. It was the will to win that got us there today.”
Jared Price picked up the win in game two, allowing no hits with two strikeouts. The Eagles are now 8-8 in season play.
Oklahoma Christian will host Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
