The Oklahoma Christian University men’s track and field team took advantage of its last regular season indoor meet as the 4×200 relay team won its race, and Joshua Jones posted a season-best time.
Freshman Kentrell Miller, the second leg of the first-place relay team, said he and his team are getting stronger every meet.
“I have been steadily improving throughout this season and I’m hoping that it will carry through to this weekend,” Miller said before the meet. “Every week I’m gaining more confidence that I can go out there and perform well.”
Joshua Jones, also a sprinter, ran in the 400-meter dash, and posted a season-best time of 52.23 seconds, placing 15th.
Going into the meet, Miller said he and his team were focusing on some specific details throughout the prior week of practice.
“Coming in, I was really focusing on my 60[-meter] time, which limited the workload to a minimum, which allowed me to post a good time,” Miller said. “And I’m really happy that we won the relay, and now we’re going into nationals with some good times and a top ranking.”
Miller said Track and Field Head Coach Randy Heath has been working on some of the finer details of the relay.
“Coach Heath has been doing a good job in trying to get the chemistry and timing right to be as efficient as possible,” Miller said. “And we went out and executed and it paid off.”
Heath said he was pleased with his team’s performance at OBU.
“It was outstanding to qualify for the 4×200 relay at the national meet,” Heath said. “The guys really focused on some specifics and it paid off really well for them.”
The Oklahoma Baptist Indoor Invitational concluded the regular season for the Eagles. They travel to Ohio for the NCCAA National Championship during the weekend.
