A slew of season-best times led the way for the Oklahoma Christian University men’s track and field team at the Cowley Tiger Invite on April 3.

Jamal George, Kentrell Miller and Timothy Zeurcher all posted season best times – George in the 100-meters, Miller in the 200-meters and Zeurcher in the 5000-meters.

In the 100-meters, George finished with a time of 11.20 seconds, which was a qualifier for the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field championship meet.

In the 200-meters, Miller posted a time of 22.69 seconds, also a season-best and a qualifier for the national meet.

Going into this race, Zeurcher held the season-best time in the 10,000-meter race for all Eagle runners. He qualified for the national meet with his time of 15:39.31 in the 5,000-meter race on Friday.

Freshman Adetoye Alao said he and his teammates were not sure of what the competition would be like going in, but said they were still prepared and ready as usual.

“This was kind of a last minute change to go to this meet, so we did not know what type of teams would be there,” Alao said. “But we went about our week the same as we always do and were prepared as if it was any other meet.”

Alao competed in the Discus throw for the Eagles, finishing ninth with a final throw of 39.44 meters.

Track and Field Head Coach Randy Heath said the meet served as a way to enhance his team’s competition.

“We came in holding a few of our injured players back, hoping to be back in a week,” Heath said. “But despite that we were just looking to continue to improve our season-best performances and prepare for the Kansas Relays and the outdoor championships.”

Landon Huslig posted times of 15.30 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 55.78 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. Neither time was Huslig’s season-best, despite that, both times were national qualifiers and he won the 400-meter hurdles race.

The Eagles had a few other national-qualifying times, both coming from the four-man teams. They qualified in the 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays. The team of Miller, Huslig, Josh Jones and George finished the 4×100 in 43.43 seconds.

The other team to qualify nationally was the 4×400 relay team of Jones, Miller, Ryan Parker and Huslig, posting a time of 3:24.74, which placed them at second. Despite good times and finishes for each team, neither was a season-best.

Oklahoma Christian’s next meet will be the David Suneram Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas, on April 11.
