Four Oklahoma Christian University men finished in the top 12 of the men’s 5,000 meters, and freshman Tara Lewis finished in the top five in the 5,000 meters for the Lady Eagles.
Sophomore Roberto Diaz led the Eagles with a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the Emporia State relays in Emporia, Kan. Senior David McWilliams finished sixth in the 35 man field.
Five Oklahoma Christian runners have now qualified for the event in the NCCAA spring outdoor championships.
Junior Larry Brown, putting together a strong season so far in the field events, finished 10th in the hammer throw. Junior Nathaniel Donley finished fifth among 21 contestants in the discus.
In the other field events, freshman Austin Wallace finished 25th out of 32 contestants in the javelin throw, but was still able to qualify for the end of season NCCAA tournament with a throw of 148 feet, 6 inches.
Senior Renaldo Garrett posted a 10th place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.21 seconds. Garrett had already qualified for the NCCAA tournament in this competition.
On the women’s side, Lewis’ fifth-place finish qualified her for the NCCAA post-season tournament.
Sophomore Katie Ostlund tallied another strong finish, taking fourth among 30 throwers in the javelin throw. In other field events, sophomore Mackenzie Brown had her best throw in the discus with a mark of 131 feet, 6 inches.
Sophomore Sarah DiBiasi tied for 11th in the high jump, with an NCCAA qualifying jump of 4 feet, 6 inches. The high jump proved secondary to DiBiasi, however, as she still faces the challenge of qualifying for her best event.
“There is less pressure for the high jump,” DiBiasi said. “But my main event is the heptathlon and so there’s still some pressure for that.”
The heptathlon is an event that combines seven track events into one title. This week’s meet will be the first opportunity DiBiasi has to qualify for this event.
In the women’s 4×400 relay, the Oklahoma Christian squad made up of freshman Rebecca Bloodworth, sophomore Maegan Cowan and juniors Somer Helms and Andrea Dennis finished eighth out of 20 teams.
The Eagles will head back to Kansas for their next meet, competing in the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic tomorrow.
