The Lady Eagles golf team took 13th and was led by senior Audrey Meisch, who finished sixth among the 82 women at the Bob Hurley Oral Roberts University Classic on Sept. 28-29 in Tulsa.
Meisch and freshman Kate Goodwin led the women the first day, both placing in the top 30. Meisch was tied for 15th with a 72 and 78. Goodwin was tied for 30th after posting a 78-76.
These two led the Lady Eagles, but their scores didn’t boost the team to the finish they were looking for – a first day at 13th out of the 15-team field.
The second day went better for the Lady Eagles. Meisch shot a final round one-under 71, surging up the leaderboard to finish sixth among a field of Division I teams. Goodwin did not shoot the score she would have hoped — posting an 82, dropping her to tied for 39th on the tournament. India Matthews was the next highest finisher for the Lady Eagles, tying for 57th.
Allison Sell posted a three-round score of 246, placing her tied at 69th. Freshman Elizabeth Freeman placed 75th after her final-round 81.
Women’s Golf Head Coach Greg Lynn said he was not pleased with his team’s play, but was happy with the play of Meisch. “As a whole, the team struggled — it was a tough, long and narrow course,” Lynn said. “Audrey played well again, which is good to see as she is being a great senior leader and playing very well and consistent to start off the year.”
Lynn said he knows his team will be better moving on from this meet, traveling to the University of Central Oklahoma tournament next Tuesday. “We need to play smarter and control our golf ball,” Lynn said. “I believe the girls are really close, and we will play better next Monday at the UCO tourney.”
The Lady Eagles are off until Tuesday and Wednesday when they play at the Lincoln Park Golf Club in Oklahoma City for the Central Oklahoma RCB Bank Classic.
