The Lady Eagles finished in the top three at the National Christian College Athletic Association Golf Championship in Panama City, Florida, concluding their fall season.

Women’s Golf Head Coach Greg Lynn said he worked with the women all season to develop their skills for a variety of courses and encouraged them to aim for greatness. For the national championship though, he changed his preparation strategy.

“I’ve really been working hard with the girls, getting their confidence to where it needs to be,” Lynn said. “Some of the girls sometimes play afraid. It’s like you’re afraid you’re going to make a mistake, you’re afraid you’re going to miss a putt. So we were working on developing an attitude where you’re not afraid of anything.”

Lynn said he stressed the importance of enjoying the game while competing, as it eases the emotions caused by increased competition pressure.

“This golf course is so difficult for the girls it’s hard to have fun,” Lynn said. “We are, however, working hard to do just that.”

According to Golf Director David Lynn, the sport relies on training physically and mentally by allowing the mind to accept the outcome whatever it may be.

“Our girls, they’ve done great,” David said. “They finished second three times [this season] and I know that my women’s coach can be a little frustrated because they want to win and the girls want to win and that’s just part of it. We work hard, we prepare and then you just have to be willing to accept the results.”

The Lady Eagles’ preparations and hard work resulted in a tie for third place out of the nine teams that visited Panama City’s Hombre Golf Club. The team tied with Lee University at 946, six strokes behind rival school Dallas Baptist University.

Anna Arrese Cortadellas led the Lady Eagles with a second place individual finish at 222, shooting 75, 75 and 72 over the three-day tournament. She received her fourth All-American honor, accompanied by Catherine Odgers and Audrey Meisch.

Meisch finished in a tie for sixth at 236 after firing 80, 81 and 75, closely followed by Odgers’ 71, 84 and 82, which landed her in a tie for eighth at 237.

Allison Sell’s performance earned her 22nd place at 252, after she shot 85, 80 and 87 over the 5,908-yard course. The Lady Eagles’ other player, Dana Todd, rounded out the team by shooting 86, 85 and 86, completing the season with a 26th place finish at 257.

The Lady Eagles will return to action in the spring to play in the Las Vegas Desert Classic on March 2-3, 2015.
