The Oklahoma Christian University Women’s golf team finished in third place at the Dallas Baptist University Patriot Classic on Monday and Tuesday.
According to Director of Golf David Lynn, there are high hopes for the Lady Eagles this year.
“Our mentality going into the tournament was one of expecting to win,” Lynn said. “The girls have won two of their three starts this spring and so expectations are running high.”
Of the eight teams at Tangle Ridge Golf Club, Oklahoma Christian trailed behind Dallas Baptist by 11 shots on day one. The Lady Eagles held a total team score of 300 and had two women in the top 10 of the 41 competitors.
Anna Arrese Cortadellas was tied for third place with an even-par 72. Cortadellas was one shot behind the board leaders.
Audrey Meish followed close behind in the opener with a score of 73, placing sixth. Lynn said Meish and Cortadellas are leading the team as they have both won tournaments this year as individuals.
According to Lynn, the Lady Eagles are maintaining steady improvements.
“Our normal strengths are ball control, consistency and strong minds in difficult conditions,” Lynn said.
Cortadellas shot a 2-over par 74, finishing at 146 to close the tournament in second place, while Meish shot a final-round 79 to place ninth.
Allison Sell finished 17th with a 155, while Dana Todd ended up tied for 20th at 157. Lynn said that Sell is a great addition to the Lady Eagles this year.
“Allison has been a very nice surprise,” Lynn said. “She has been working hard on her game and really contributed some nice rounds so far this semester.”
India Matthews tied for 26th at 160 and Catherine Odgers ranked 33rd with 163.
Oklahoma Christian wrapped it with a team total of 613 – just 19 shots behind the leader.
The Lady Eagles’ final season tournament is on April 20 at the Horseshoe Bay Resort in Texas for the Heartland Conference Championship.
