More Lady Eagles qualified for the NCCAA Championship as two distance runners qualified on Friday at Wichita State University, and nine qualified on Saturday at Pittsburg State University in Kansas.

Senior Maegan Cowan said the team’s training in the week prior to the meet proved successful in its performance during the weekend.

“[Saturday’s] meet was awesome,” Cowan said. “Everybody went out hard and performed great. Practice paid off this week and we all put forth an effort individually and as a team.”

Cowan ran a 1:00.06 in the 400-meter sprint, her best time of the season. The time moved her forward in the 400-meter NCCAA rankings.

Cowan competed on the 4×100-meter relay team with Rebecca Bloodworth, Wilmina Gley and Paradise Henson. The team recorded a 49.05, which moved them up in the national rankings.

Bloodworth, Gley and Cowan joined Kara Drewke in the 4×400-meter relay to finish with a time of 4:03.63, another time to advance the team’s NCCAA standings.

Katie Ostlund placed third in the javelin throw, Oklahoma Christian University’s top placing at the Gorilla Classic.

High-jumper Sarah DiBiasi posted a season-best performance of 5 feet, 1 inch, placing her 13th out of 21 women. McKenzie Stanford did not top her season-best, but recorded a 5 feet, 5 inch-jump, earning her fourth. Both women qualified for nationals with their marks.

Henson recorded a 12.65 in the 100-meter and a 25.99 in the 200-meter, Bloodworth ran a 1:01.41 in the 400-meter and Drewke posted a 1:09.43 in the 400-meter – all meeting the national meet qualifying standards.

Thrower Makenzie Brown hurled a 119 feet, 1 inch in the discus, and Miranda Ostlund recorded 145 feet, 6 inches in the hammer throw and 119 feet, 8 inches in the javelin. Both performances were within qualifying marks.

The Lady Eagles travel to Lawrence, Kansas on April 15-18 for the second to last meet before the NCCAA Outdoor Championships.
