Men and women’s track teams end season with 18 PRs

The Nebraska Tune-Up was a meet that fostered improvements for the Oklahoma Christian University men and women’s track and field teams, which recorded a combined 18 personal-best performances over the weekend.

“It went well,” junior Sarah Cobb said. “All six of the girls that went PR’d for the last meet of the indoor season.”

Cobb recorded her personal-best time in the mile with a time of 5:27.15. The five other Lady Eagles to top previous personal records were Maci Rich and Katie Jones in the 3,000-meter, Leisa VanVooren in the 600-meter and Alexus Woolly and Maia Zeno in the weight throw.

Twelve Eagle runners recorded their best times in Nebraska, including senior Roberto Diaz, who outran his best time in the 5,000-meter in the last race of his indoor track career with a 14:48.70.

The seven personal-record-breaking runners in individual events include Sisay Gillock in the 5,000-meter, Austin Kruzich in the 60-meter, Swayer Pehkonen in the 200-meter, Joshua Jones in the 400-meter, Ryan Lutterloh and Jake Weith in the 800-meter and Austin Wallace in the 60-meter hurdles.

Oklahoma Christian’s distance medley relay team recorded a season-best time with Kyle Broaddrick, Colin McCaskill, Emory Lobley and Evan McQuirk to round out the record-breaking dozen.

Cobb said the last indoor meet would keep the momentum rolling for the Eagles as they prepare for the upcoming outdoor season.

“It should give us confidence going into outdoor in a few weeks,” Cobb said.

The Oklahoma Christian national championship provisional qualifiers hope compete in the limited NCAA DII Indoor Championship on March 11-12, while the other competitors open their outdoor season on March 10 at the Southwestern Invitational in Winfield, Kansas.
