The Lady Eagles dropped five spots on the final day of the University of Central Oklahoma-RCB Bank Classic to finish ninth as a team.
Women’s Golf Head Coach Greg Lynn said the Lady Eagles simply needed to score better, especially at this tournament. “We were hoping to establish a new scoring level, somewhere in the 290 range, so far we have not done that,” Lynn said. “This tournament should propel us to that level. We knew the course and the team seemed very capable of making a strong run, just did not quite get it done.”
Two of Oklahoma Christian University’s upperclassmen golfers posted the top scores for the team in the first round. Audrey Meisch and India Matthews each posted even-par 71s to both tie for second after the first round.
As a team, the Lady Eagles were tied for fourth, seven shots behind the leader.
The second day was not the final day Oklahoma Christian was hoping for – the team dropped five spots down to finish ninth.
The Lady Eagles posted team score of 307, 23 spots behind the winner — Northeastern State University.
Oklahoma Christian’s lone top-10 finisher was Meisch, who posted a four-over 75 on the final day to finish the tournament with a score of 146 – tied for eighth.
Matthews, entering the day one shot back of the lead, carded a 78 to drop to her finishing spot of 18th.
Prior to the tournament, Lynn said there was significance to this tournament. “The girls look at this tournament as a stepping stone towards post season play,” Lynn said. “We must practice everyday and get better to be ready to compete strongly against teams that are ranked.”
The Lady Eagles’ last tournament of the fall will be on Oct. 12-13 at the Dallas Baptist University Classic.
