The Lady Eagles played their first NCAA Division II tournament at Northeastern State University and showed no sign of fear in taking top honors as a team.
Senior Audrey Meisch continued her successes for Oklahoma Christian University, sharing a first-place finish with Baylee Price of Northeastern. This was Meisch’s third career individual win.
The Lady Eagles, led by Meisch and freshman Kate Goodwin who were first and second on the individuals’ leaderboard, started off the tournament with a first-day surge, placing them in the top six strokes ahead of the second-place team.
Meisch posted a first-round 73 and Goodwin recorded a 74 after the first day. Women’s Golf Head Coach Greg Lynn said he was pleased with his team’s play, despite the windy conditions. “The girls all played well, if they can keep it together they can get their first win,” Lynn said.
Lynn said he was pleased with the play of both his younger and older golfers. “I was pleased that both freshman had a good day and Audrey played well and leads the field,” Lynn said.
Other first day scores were 77 for both India Matthews and Allison Sell, who were tied for 12th in the 97-woman field after the first round. Freshman Elizabeth Freeman shot a 78, recording three birdies during her round.
Meisch shot a second-day 75, while Goodwin posted a 78 to end the tournament. Meisch held her first place spot, but Price of Northeastern surged up the leaderboard with back-to-back 74s to tie with Meisch and share the first-place finish.
Oklahoma Christian finished the tournament with a team score of 615, beating the next closest team by two strokes.
The Lady Eagles’ next tournament will be Sept. 21-22 at the Bob Hurley Oral Roberts University shootout in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
