Sophomore Elizabeth Freeman was the top finisher for the Oklahoma Christian University women’s golf team, as the Lady Eagles tied for fourth place in the Midwestern State Invitational over spring break March 13 and 14.
After a first-day score of 327, Oklahoma Christian followed with a 311 score on the second day. The Lady Eagles finished the tournament tied for fourth place with a total score of 638 at plus 62 in the 20-team field at the Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, TX.
Freeman finished in a tie for 11th place at 157 after shooting an 80 on day one and a 77 on the second.
“With the windy conditions and the tough greens, I think I performed well,” Freeman said. “However, there is always room for improvement and there is still plenty of time left to do that.”
Sophomore Kate Goodwin and freshman Abigail Rigsby finished the tournament in a tie for 13th. Both golfers shot a day-one 81 and final-day 77.
Other competitors for the Lady Eagles included senior Allison Sell, who finished in a tie for 46th at 165, and freshman Ashton Nemececk, who tied for 77th place with 172.
The Lady Eagles continued competition by placing third out of 11 teams in the Hillcat Classic in Owasso, OK on Monday and Tuesday.
Nemecek placed in a career-high eighth place and was the Lady Eagle’s top finisher. She shot a final round 78 and finished at 229.
Rigby posted a 12th-place finish at 232 and Goodwin gave Oklahoma Christian three players in the top-15 of the event with a 234 and a tie for 14th place in the 62-woman field.
Rounding out the five competitors for the Lady Eagles, Freeman finished at 239 in 29th place and Sell in 31st with a final score of 241.
“By doing well at the regional preview it will help us get to where we need to be when it comes to going to regionals in May,” Freeman said. “That is our goal. However, there are still a few tournaments left and we have to perform well each time to reach it.”
The Lady Eagles will compete in the Lady Buff Spring Invitational in Tucson, AZ, April 3 and 4.
