Lady Eagles golf placed second at the University of Central Oklahoma RCB Bank Classic after setting a program record of 291 strokes in round one.

Women’s Golf Head Coach Greg Lynn said although the Lady Eagles finished strong with their third consecutive second-place finish of the season, they did not meet their own expectations.

“We played OK, but the girls have not even come close to what they are capable of,” Lynn said.

The Lady Eagles were a mere four strokes behind the University of Central Oklahoma at the conclusion of round one, and looking to close the gap. The end of round two concluded with Oklahoma Christian University in second place, 19 strokes behind Central Oklahoma and six strokes ahead of Northeastern State University.

Junior Audrey Meisch led the team by shooting 71 and 73 on the Lincoln Park Golf Club’s east course, finishing the tournament in fourth place.

Senior Anna Arrese Cortadellas (72-74) finished right behind Meisch in a tie for fifth place with 146, and sophomore Allison Sell tied for 16th after firing 72 and 78, to finish with 150.

Sophomore Dana Todd (77-75) covered the 6,026-yard course with a 152 to tie for 21st place, and senior Catherine Odgers finished one stroke behind at 153 after firing 76 and 77, earning a tie for 24th place.

Oklahoma Christian’s Golf Director and Men’s Golf Head Coach David Lynn said despite the fact the Lady Eagles have yet to win this season, they have the potential to improve in the following weeks before the national championship.

“What’s helping the girls is that we have the most talent we [have] ever had and we have the deepest team we have ever had,” David said. “That is a recipe to break records.  I think the girls will continue to get better and better.”

The Lady Eagle’s “B” team consists of sophomore India Matthews (77-76), who tied with Odgers for 24th place at a score of 153; freshman Chaise Lucero (76-82), who finished in a tie for 40th at 158; junior Alyssa Schneider (90-88), who finished in 74th with a 178 and was followed closely by teammate Mindy Stafford, who shot 85 and 95 for a 180 score and 75th place.

“Practice did help, but even though [our] shot games were better, we hit the ball too crooked,” Lynn said. “We did putt and chip better [and] we will keep on working.”

The Lady Eagles will return to the green on Oct. 13-14 at the Dallas Baptist Fall Classic.
