“It has been really inspirational to me that, despite all the really difficult things they’ve gone through, they’ve been disowned by their families, they had to leave everything they knew, and through all that, they are so wonderful, happy all the time and eager to always learn more,” Will said.
Working to encourage students to practice mental health, especially concerning academic stress caused by upcoming final exams, U!Learn, a subset of Oklahoma Christian University’s U!Shine organization, hosted the lecture, “Adventures in Grit” Nov. 4.
“Just go,” Sandoval said. “It’s 45 minutes of your time, and you’re only going to benefit from it. No matter where you’re coming from, you’re going to walk away learning something new, and it’s going to be helpful information. I know, whenever I show up, I’m going to learn information that I didn’t even know I needed to know.”
Oklahoma Christian University faculty and staff shared their thoughts on the mental health event called Never Give Up Hope, and encouraged everyone to get involved in the future.
U!Shine’s final event of the school year, U Blew It, is encouraging students to embrace their failures as successes stories through a night of storytelling, music, poetry and various other creative outlets.
