This week the Talon sat down with students and asked the question, “How do you stay positive during a pandemic filled with negative news?”

Avery Black, a senior nursing major, said she focuses on positive things going on and looks to God for guidance.

“I stay positive by being a positive and encouraging person,” Black said. “I focus on the things I can control and look to God during these tough times.”

For senior mechanical engineering major Derek Duckworth his positivity comes from knowing better things are coming.

“For me, I know the grass is greener on the other side and all of this is just a trial of faith,” Duckworth said. “Also, the pandemic doesn’t scare me too much. I understand the fast spread of the disease, but I do not feel like I am going to die if I were to get it.”

Kaitlyn Maker, a junior political science major, said she keeps a positive mindset by spending time with the Bible. Maker also said surrounding herself with friends and family help her stay positive.

“I have really been trying to be intentional about spending time in the word and in prayer daily,” Maker said. “This really puts things into perspective for me. We are not the first group of people to go through hard times. Through it all the Lord is good and he will provide. Also, surrounding myself with my friends and family helps me to keep positive as well.”
