“Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.” – Lyndon B. Johnson

This quote from former President Lyndon Johnson has stuck out to me since I was in high school, and is something I think about often. Throughout my life, all of my hard times seem to come around whenever something puts me into a slump. Most recently it has been loved ones around me passing away. When something like this happens, it puts me in a bad mental state, which oftentimes I have a hard time pulling myself out of.  Through years of slumps, I finally learned the importance of mindset. Instead of questioning why things were happening the way they were I decided to take a step back and take each day as it comes. Once this became a habit for me I found myself happier and happier as the days went on. Rather than continuing to be upset at whatever it was I would remind myself that no matter what happened another day was on the horizon. So, for me, this quote serves as a reminder: each day holds new opportunities, and if I carry the weight of the past my present will hurt as a result.
