Mental Health: Resources at OC

Being aware of one’s mental health is important, especially for college students who may have a semester filled with exams, projects, and homework. Here at Oklahoma Christian University, students have the opportunity to take advantage of the Counseling Center right here on campus.

Oklahoma Christian’s Counseling Center offers many different services to students at little to no cost to give them support, relaxation, or help with their day-to-day struggles.

Kayla Tur, the Counseling Center Administrative Assistant made note of the several services the counseling center provides. One resource Tur said was freely provided to all Oklahoma Christian students is the relaxation room. Students can book the room in 30 minute increments and enjoy a calming environment with soft music, a massage chair, and a calming atmosphere.

“You have 30 minutes to slow down, enjoy a fully reclining chair massage, and give yourself a much-needed mental break,” Tur said. “Many who experience it tell us it is one of the best chair massages they’ve had, and frequently come back.”

Oklahoma Christian’s Counseling Center also provides resources to students who need guidance and counseling. Frequently, students find themselves overwhelmed during the semester. Sometimes the cause is their personal life, or sometimes it is the stress of being a student. In any scenario though, the Counseling Center has resources for every student.

Some of the types of counseling available to students include individual counseling, couples counseling for engaged or married couples, and emergency counseling for students who may be having immediate issues.

When asked about pricing, Tur stated it is, “$25 per session for employees and their immediate family members,” and it starts at, “$10 per session after the first initial free session, but can be waived if finances are a concern.”

There are also no fees for crisis counseling, group counseling, or to use the relaxation room. All appointments can be made with the counseling center either by phone or in person.

Outside of their office doors, the Counseling Center also hosts various events to raise awareness for students’ mental health. They have hosted two events already since the beginning of the Fall 2026 semester.

To memorialize World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, the Counseling Center hosted a candlelight vigil. The event hosted a prayer for all individuals and families who have been affected by suicide and to answer any questions that anybody may have.

The Counseling Center also hosted events for Mental Health Awareness Week where they hosted guest speakers and helped students with their questions.

Outside of the Counseling Center, Oklahoma Christian graduate students also provide their own services to the community.

“The OC Family Therapy Clinic with the MFT graduate program provides counseling services to the community, which can include alumni,” Tur said.

The Family Therapy Clinic is non-exclusive to Oklahoma Christian students and reaches out to the local community outside of the school. On their website, they state that they provide many services, including individual, family, and couples counseling. Their couples counseling includes pre-marital counseling and they have traumatic experiences as well as children and adolescent counseling. They also will schedule telehealth and remote appointments for any Oklahomans in the state.

Between the Counseling Center and the Family Therapy Clinic, Oklahoma Christian students have many resources to help with their mental health. With the difficulties of college, all students should know that they have resources that can help them with relaxation or with talking to somebody.

For any students who are interested in scheduling an appointment for counseling or with the relaxation room, they can email the Counseling Center at counseling.center@oc.edu
