Things to do in Oklahoma City over fall break

Whether because of piling homework or obstacles to travel, a sizable minority of Oklahoma Christian University students remain on campus over fall break every year. 

Regardless of your reason for staying, you can still have a memorable fall break in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The Talon has compiled the top things to do in and around Oklahoma City over the next few days. 

An Affair of the Heart craft show 

More than 800 exhibitors are set to show off their craftsmanship at An Affair of the Heart craft show this weekend. 

Everything from quilts to antique jewelry will be on display and available for purchase at the show, recognized as one of the largest craft events in the Southwest. 

 

The event takes place three times a year at the State Fair Park in northwest Oklahoma City. Admission is $10 for all three days. 

Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. 

Heard on Hurd

The final Heard on Hurd festival of 2019 is set for Saturday, Oct. 19, in downtown Edmond. 

The monthly street festival, which runs March through October, features food trucks, local musicians and pop-up shops. Oklahoma Christian’s Summer Singers performed at the festival last August.

Midtown Walkabout 

Celebrate the fall season with face painting, pumpkin carving and exclusive deals from local retailers at the 8th annual Midtown Walkabout this Saturday, Oct. 19, from 2 to 6 p.m.  

“Midtown Acts of Kindness,” a tradition where Midtown guides distribute gift cards to random attendees, will continue this year. 

Located just north of downtown Oklahoma City along and near NW 10th Street, the Midtown district has grown into a thriving residential and commercial district over the past decade. 

Oklahoma City Thunder preseason game 

The Oklahoma City Thunder will take on the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 7:00 p.m. during their final home preseason game. Upper-level tickets for the exhibition contest are available on Seatgeek for as little as $5 per ticket. 

Minus all-stars Russell Westbrook and Paul George, the new-look Thunder will hope to make a playoff push this season with recent acquisitions Chris Paul, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Danilo Gallinari. 

Scissortail Park 

Oklahoma City’s brand new, 40-acre urban park is open and ready for exploration

Featuring native prairie grasses and flower gardens, the park also has a 3.7-acre lake where guests can rent kayaks, pedal boats and paddleboards. On Sundays, local musicians take center stage at the Great Lawn.

Riverscream

On Friday and Saturday nights in October, zombies haunt the Sandridge Sky Trail in downtown Oklahoma City’s Boathouse District. 

For $20, you and your friends can maneuver obstacles around the trail and shoot down zombies with a laser tag gun. However, if a zombie tracks you down and takes a bite, you must head to a medic station to heal up. 

The player with the most points at the end of the night will win the title of champion. Passes can be purchased here

Weekend concerts 

Two musical acts with national notoriety will play concerts in the Oklahoma City area over the weekend. 

Rapper NF, who has reached the Billboard Top 100 several times with hits like “Let You Down,” will perform at the Criterion on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. 

Comedy rock duo Tenacious D will take stage at the Criterion the following day, Sunday, Oct. 20, at 8 p.m. Tickets are available here
