Things to do in Oklahoma in March

The start of a new month provides Oklahoma Christian University students with numerous activities to get off campus and involved in the surrounding communities. From an auto show to America’s largest dinosaur exhibition, the following events are intended to help students see why this is the perfect time to get out and about in Oklahoma City.

Dr. Seuss Day in the Gardens

  • March 2, 2019
  • Times: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Location: Myriad Botanical Gardens and Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory
  • Price: Members $3; Nonmembers $4

Visitors can celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, his wonderful books and the earth. The event will feature the Cat in the Hat, who will read stories and share Dr. Seuss facts. Kids can learn from the Lorax about how to take care of their animal and plant friends while visiting with Oklahoma City Zoo visitors. The event will also have Dr. Seuss-inspired crafts and a fun photo op area.

Tatyana Fazlalizadeh: Oklahoma is Black

  • Feb. 22, 2019, to May 19, 2019
  • Recurring daily
  • Location: Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center
  • Price: Free

Oklahoma is Black is a depiction and celebration of Oklahoma City’s rich black history “highlighting the black lives that have made and continue to make this city.” The exhibition name references Fazlalizadeh’s America is Black, a series of images she says “reflect the voices of marginalized groups who are challenging the acceptance of bigotry.” Oklahoma is Black will be the final exhibition at Oklahoma Contemporary’s fairgrounds location. The new campus, at NW 11th and Broadway, will open in the fall of 2019.

Live on the Plaza

  • Recurring monthly on the 2nd Friday
  • Times: 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Location: Plaza District

LIVE on the Plaza is the Plaza District’s second Friday art walk. On the second Friday of each month, Plaza District businesses stay open late with featured artists, live music, special events and local shopping.

OKC Auto Show

  • March 8, 2019, to March 10, 2019
  • Recurring daily
  • Times: 10:00 a.m.
  • Location: State Fair Park

Visitors can check out the latest vehicles from major manufacturers, as well as classics and specialty cars.

Opening Night – Oklahoma Cine Latino Film Festival

  • March 8, 2019
  • Times: 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Location: OCCC Capitol Hill Center
  • Price: $20 in advance; $25 at the door

Calle Dos Cinco celebrates the Latino culture in the Historic Capitol Hill district. The OKCine Latino Film Festival promotes the impact of this Latino culture in cinema, showcasing local and international filmmakers. The ticketed event, Opening Night, will feature “International Latino Short Films” and for the first time, “Feature Length Films” at the OCCC Capitol Hill Center.

Jurassic Quest

  • March 15, 2019, to March 17, 2019
  • Recurring daily
  • Location: State Fair Park

Jurassic Quest is America’s largest and most realistic dinosaur event. Guests will walk through the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic periods and experience what it was like to be among living, breathing dinosaurs. It is the only dinosaur event with life-sized dinosaurs. From the very small to gigantic, sky scraping dinosaurs, these creatures roar, move and some even walk around.
