On Nov. 12, a group of female students from Oklahoma Christian University’s Women’s Professional Mentorship class attended a Polished Network event in Oklahoma City.
Polished Network is an organization focused on “emboldening women in their faith and work.” Founded in 2008, Polished provides a platform for working women to navigate the ramifications of their professional and spiritual journeys in an authentic community. The network offers various resources and opportunities for women to connect, grow and explore their faith together.
The Polished Network event took place at Vast, located on the top floor of the Devon Tower in Oklahoma City. These gatherings occur on the second Tuesday of every month, providing a consistent opportunity for women to come together and share their experiences. The event is open to any women looking to attend.
Nine students from the Women’s Professional Mentorship class at Oklahoma Christian attended the event. Accompanying them were one of the class’ professors, Amanda Noblin, Major Gifts Officer, and Shannon Phelps, Administrative Assistant for the School of Business.
This event enabled students to meet with women from the area and gain insights into balancing work, family and spiritual life.
The Women’s Professional Mentorship class at Oklahoma Christian is designed to provide female students with guidance for their future careers and lifestyle. The class meets weekly and features guest speakers who share their experiences in various aspects of life, including professional development, family life and spiritual growth.
An essential part of this class is the mentorship program, where each student is paired with a female mentor. These mentors come from diverse backgrounds and hold various careers, providing students with a different experience to learn from. Regardless of their professional paths, all mentors share a common foundation- their Christian faith.
This mentorship allows students to receive personalized guidance and support as they navigate their academic and professional journeys. Students meet regularly with their mentors to discuss goals, challenges and strategies for success, fostering a deep connection that encourages both personal and spiritual growth.
By attending the Polished Network event, students were able to learn beyond the classroom and engage with the broader community of professional women who share similar values and aspirations.
By combining classroom learning with real-world experiences, Oklahoma Christian University is providing its female students with a comprehensive approach to professional development that addresses both their career aspirations and spiritual growth.
