El Nino Causes Warmer and Wetter Temperatures Heading Into Winter

Winter in the United States will be warmer and wetter this year because of El Niño according to the Associated Press. El Niño is a natural warming in the Pacific ocean that is affecting temperatures across the United States. Price Increases Impacting US Households Unevenly

The War in Iran has impacted the United States economy for households around the country unevenly. The largest increase in price has been in transportation, impacting oil and natural gas as prices increase. While retail services try to absorb price increases on food goods, they are still raising prices for groceries and other necessities. The price of oil has more than doubled since the beginning of the war, leading to a large increase in the prices of transportation and air fares according to the Associated Press.

The Role of Title IX at educational institutions

Title IX has existed in United States Universities for over 54 years, but recently has fallen into controversy because of the handling of events related to Cornell University. In 2011, Former President Barack Obama expanded the responsibilities of Title IX to handle reports of sexual assault on campus. Recently, Cornell University has faced criticism of their handling of multiple instances of sexual assault against one of their female students by multiple male students. The university has not pressed charges against the students, and it has raised awareness for what Associated Press describes as a common practice within Title IX programs. Associated Press states that only 2% of Title IX cases reported to the police are prosecuted, with only 8% of those leading to a conviction. If an assault victim chooses to press charges or report the case non-anonymously to Title IX, their name will be revealed to the public, potentially leading to cases of harassment for the victim.
