Sanders shocks Clinton in Michigan

Leading up to Michigan’s primary on Tuesday, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton attacked Democratic rival Sen. Bernie Sanders in hopes to gain more votes.

Clinton unveiled Sanders’ 2009 vote against a bailout for the U.S. auto industry, hoping that the country’s largest car manufacturer state would vote in her favor. However, Clinton’s tactic did not prove fruitful as she lost in the Tuesday night primary.

According to CNN, a win in Michigan could have proved that Clinton could win across the country and make her journey to the Democratic presidential nomination easier.

Clinton’s campaign has focused more on the general election, rather than on the party nomination.

“The sooner I could become your nominee, the more I could turn my attention to the Republicans,” Clinton said Monday night at a rally in Michigan.

Despite her loss in Michigan, Clinton picked up more delegates than Sanders on Tuesday night after her win in Mississippi. Clinton now has 1,234 of the 2,383 delegates needed to win the nomination, versus Sanders’ 567.

TRUMP DOMINATES, RUBIO LOSES MOMENTUM

Of the four states that held Republican primaries Tuesday night, Donald Trump won three of them by large margins.

Trump leads the race overall with 458 delegates, while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz follows with 359.

Cruz took home a win from Idaho’s Republican primary Tuesday night.

Sen. Marco Rubio trails behind Cruz and Trump with 151 delegates. Leading up to Tuesday night’s primaries, Rubio focused his energy on attacking Trump at both Republican debates. According to CNN, big donors launched anti-Trump attack ads hoping to knock off some steam from the former reality star.

Rubio’s strategy failed, however, and Rubio took home all last place finishes on Tuesday night – except in Idaho, where he placed third.

Next week, the Republicans will travel to Rubio’s home state Florida in what has been labeled the “winner-takes-all” primary, where 99 delegates are at stake.

“I believe with all of my heart that the winner of the Florida primary next Tuesday will be the nominee of the Republican Party,” Rubio said to supporters.
