After breaking record, Lady Eagles struggle offensively at TWU

The Oklahoma Christian University women’s basketball team sits at 2-6 for the season after dropping Thursday’s game against Texas Women’s University, one game after scoring 123 points on St. Gregory’s University on Monday.

Junior McKenzie Stanford said the team maintained its intensity throughout the night, despite TWU’s aggressive offense.

“I was very proud of how we kept our heads up the whole game,” Stanford said. “They came out hitting shots in the beginning, but we never gave up and stuck with the game plan the whole time.”

Oklahoma Christian managed nine points in the first quarter, while the Pioneers put 21 by the end of the quarter. But by halftime the Lady Eagles were within five points of TWU at 31-26.

TWU came out swinging early again in the second half, outscoring Oklahoma Christian 28-18 in the third quarter. The Lady Eagles scored six more than the Pioneers in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to catch TWU, who recorded a 79-70 win.

Stanford led the team in points, rebounds and steals with 18, 11 and five, respectively. Addy Clift put up 17 – including three of Oklahoma Christian’s four 3-pointers.

Aisha Martin added nine points and Sarah Parker recorded six. Hope Dawkins, Hannah Holasek and Daisha Gonzaque each contributed four points.

Stanford said she was proud of the team’s effort, but things didn’t fall their way Thursday.

“We gave a good fight, but just came up a little short tonight,” Stanford said.

The Oklahoma Christian women’s basketball team hosts West Texas A&M on Saturday at 1 p.m.
