Eagles and Lady Eagles place in indoor openers

In their opening meet of the indoor track and field season, the Oklahoma Christian University men’s track and field team had six runners compete in the NCAA Division I Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, AR Jan. 12.

The Eagles’ 4×400 meter relay team, made up of freshman Ian Colbert, senior Landon Huslig, senior Sawyer Pehkonen and freshman Andre Norman, took second place out of five teams with a time of 3:14.42.

Huslig also finished sixth place in the 60-meter hurdles out of 15 hurdlers in 8.20 seconds.Senior Emory Lobley placed 12th in the 1,000-meter with a time of 2:35.36, Pehkonen took 10th in the 400-meter dash in 50.26. Norman finished 14th in the 60-meter dash at 6.98 and senior Austin Kruzich placed 22nd in 7.17.

The Lady Eagles also competed in their first indoor meet of the season at the Missouri Southern Invitational in Joplin, MO Jan. 13.

In the weight throw, three Oklahoma Christian throwers placed in the top five of the 11-thrower event.

Junior Alexus Woolly took second with a throw of 14.62 meters, junior Maia Zeno placed third at 14.51 meters and sophomore Destiny Grace finished fifth, throwing 13.47 meters.

Grace placed third out of 14 throwers in the shot put with a throw of 12.52 meters, Zeno finished sixth throwing a 11.36 and senior McKenzie Stanford took ninth throwing 11.06 meters. Woolly placed 11th with 10.64 meters.

In the high jump, Stanford finished in first place out of four jumpers at 1.63 meters and third out of 10 hurdlers in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.51 seconds.

Graduate student Layne Hammer competed and took first in the 800-meter with a time of 2:25.26 and sophomore Kelsey Castillo placed second in the 10-woman field in 2:28.69.

Both teams will travel to Pittsburgh, KS to compete in the Pittsburgh State Invitational Jan. 27.
