In its second-to-last home game of the season, the Oklahoma Christian University men’s basketball team lost by fifteen points to Rogers State University – a score that does not tell the whole story, according to Head Coach Dan Hays.

“We played real well tonight,” Hays said. “The score is not indicative of the game. There’s a reason [Rogers State] are tied for first in the league and they showed it tonight, but I was very pleased with our guys and the job that they did.”

The Eagles recorded an 89-74 loss to Rogers State University on Thursday night, after returning from an unexpected win against Dallas Baptist University on Monday.

Sophomore forward Jordan Rutherford said the team hoped to ride off its momentum from Monday’s win in Dallas.

“If we come out and play like we are capable of executing then there’s no reason why our execution shouldn’t be just like it was Monday,” Rutherford said before the game.

Jordan Box lead the Eagles on the court with 18 points, including two assists and two steals. Peters sank three of the team’s six 3-pointers, shot 3-4 from the free-throw line and recorded 14 points total.

John Moon and Eric Randall handled the inside of the paint, with Moon scoring 17 points, recording one block and nine rebounds, and Randall contributing 11 points, shooting 5-5 from the charity strike, grabbing seven rebounds and one steal.

Rutherford recorded eight points including two 3-pointers, and Elijah Strickland shooting 2-2 for free-throws and making the Eagles’ sixth 3-pointer.

Senior Josh Faurot rounded out Oklahoma Christian University’s scoring team with one point from the free-throw line and grabbed two rebounds for the Eagles.

After the game, Hays said while results may be unpredictable, the Eagles’ drive has become more consistent.

“Basketball is a game of nights,” Hays said. “It doesn’t always go to the stronger, faster team because it’s so spontaneous. So hopefully we’re getting on a roll to finish this year out.”

The Eagles’ final home game of the season is against the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Feb. 21 at 3 p.m.
