The Oklahoma Christian University women’s basketball team couldn’t get shots to fall during its final home game, as the Lady Aggies’ took a 58-50 win against the Lady Eagles.

According to Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Larry Truesdell, shooting was the biggest obstacle for Saturday’s game.

“Overall we shot 24 percent,” Truesdell said. “You can’t beat anybody [with that]. Playing in your own gym, you [have] to shoot free throws better than that. If we shoot a decent percent, we are right there in the game at the end and we [have] a chance. They’re a good team, I don’t feel too bad about losing to them. I just wish we would have played better.”

The shooting was fairly even across the board for the Lady Eagles. Sydney Hill led with 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Aisha Martin followed closely with 10 points and three steals, while McKenzie Stanford contributed eight points.

According to Martin, the momentum began too early for Oklahoma Christian.

“I think we were just a little too pumped up,” Martin said. “We had a lot of energy going in and we wanted to go out good for our seniors. I think [we were] just being hectic and rushing.”

Kaitlin Morris grabbed six rebounds, six points and two steals for the Lady Eagles and Kylee Hicks added five rebounds with two steals and four total points.

According to Truesdell, it wasn’t the usual players that shined for Oklahoma Christian.

“I thought Aisha [Martin] did a good job off the bench,” Truesdell said. “Kat [Morris] did a good job with offensive rebounding. Kylee Hicks played hard on defense. Those were the best three in this game. Our three leading scorers struggled.”

The Lady Eagles battled back-and-fourth with a three-time lead change. According to Truesdell, each senior’s contributing role will be missed next year.

“Mackenzie Brown has played really well and Skyler has done some good things lately,” Truesdell said. “Kat has been here for a long time and she is a very heady solid player, kind of like a coach on the floor. I hate to see them go. Our big loss came in game six when Logan tore her ACL. She is our best 3-point shooter and our best defender and that really hurt.”

The Lady Eagles will face St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas on Feb. 26.
