Lady Eagles place 13th in Dallas Baptist Classic

The Oklahoma Christian University women’s golf team continued their fall season on Monday and Tuesday by shooting 54 holes during a two-day tournament at the Dallas Baptist Classic in Dallas, TX.

The Lady Eagles placed 13th in the 18-team event.

Oklahoma Christian finished the first day of the tournament with a team score of 315, followed by a second round of 316. The final round score for the Lady Eagles was 318, placing them in 13th place with an overall team score of 949.

Freshman Abigail Rigsby, the Lady Eagles’ top finisher in the tournament, recorded rounds of 75 and 79 on day one and 78 on day two to place 30th overall at 232 in the 86-woman field.

“Personally I feel that this fall season has been a strong start to my college career and our tournament in Dallas showed how my game compares to others in our conference and region,” Rigsby said. “I feel like the tournament went well, we got the chance to compete against teams in our region and in our conference, but I think our team has a tremendous amount of potential and there is definitely room for improvement.”

Sophomore Elizabeth Freeman shot a morning round of 81 and an afternoon round of 77 on day one, followed by a 79 in the final round to end at 237 in a tie for 44th place.

Other golfers for the Lady Eagles included sophomore Kate Goodwin, who shot a 79 and 86 on the first day and finished day two with a 4-over-par 76 at 241 to tie for 52nd; senior Allison Sell who shot a day one 85 early and 75 late followed by a final-round 85 to close at 245 in 61st and freshman Ashton Nemecek, who finished 73rd at 251 after a first-round 80, second-round 85 and a final-round 86.

Oklahoma Christian will wrap up the fall season at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate, hosted by Cameron University at the Fort Sill Golf Course near Lawton, OK, next Monday and Tuesday.
