In one of their final competitions before the Heartland Conference Championship, the Oklahoma Christian University women’s golf team took home the team title in the Hillcat Classic in Owasso, OK March 20.
The Lady Eagles placed first in a field of 10 teams—seven which qualified for placements—with a team score of 623 after two days of competition.
All five golfers competing for Oklahoma Christian placed within the top 12, led by junior Kate Goodwin who finished second out of 41-woman field with 152 after a second round 80.
Sophomore Abigail Rigsby took third at 153 shooting a 75, junior Elizabeth Freeman finished sixth with 160 shooting 81 and both sophomore Ashton Nemecek and freshman Shaley Goad tied for 12th place at 164. Nemecek hit a second round 79 while Goad shot an 85.
Two Oklahoma Christian golfers competed as individuals in the event. Freshman Felicity Wittenberg posted her first collegiate top-10 finish as she placed ninth at 162 and senior Chaise Lucero finished 38th with 189.
After the tournament, Goodwin was named Eagle of the Week. She was the second female golfer in a row to be given the award following Rigsby last week.
For the men, junior Juan Pallach led the team as Oklahoma Christian finished fourth in the Broncho Invitational at Oaktree Country Club in Edmond, OK March 20.
The Eagles had a final team score of 618, including a second round 298, which was a 22-shot improvement over round one.
Pallach tied for 10th after shooting 76 in the second round to finish at 151. Junior Garrett White was the next highest finisher for Oklahoma Christian at 152 in a tie for 12th place.
Junior Cameron Brown finished tied for 32nd at 157, freshman Andres Brictson finished at 159 in a tie for 49th and junior Ethan Smith tied for 60th at 163.
Four Oklahoma Christian golfers competed in the event as individuals. Freshman Jackson Phillips finished tied for 25th at 155, junior Grady Neal tied for 32nd at 157, freshman Pablo Duster at 172 tied for 79th and senior Chris Karlovich finished in 82nd at 173.
At the St. Edward’s Invitational in Austin, TX, Pallach matched a career-best finish as he took second March 27.
Pallach finished the three-round tournament at 213 shooting a 70, 71 and 72 each round on his way to a second-place finish.
The Eagles as a team finished in sixth place out of 12 teams with 882 team points.
Smith tied for 15th with 218, Brictson finished in a tie for 41st at 226, White tied for 47th with 227 and Brown took 52nd with 228.
Phillips and Neal both played as individuals. Phillips posted 231 to tie for 60th and Neal tied for 64th at 232.
The Lady Eagles will next play in the Mustang Intercollegiate April 9-10 in Goodyear, AZ, while the men will not play again until the Heartland Conference Championship April 22-24 in Horseshoe Bay, TX.
