The Lady Eagles softball team recorded two wins on Wednesday against Lindenwood-Belleville and then split a doubleheader on Thursday at Rogers State University.
The first doubleheader of the week resulted in a sweep of Lindenwood-Belleville out of Illinois. Sophomore Shea Coats said going into this long stretch would get tiring but this first day could start building momentum.
“We knew going into the Lindenwood doubleheader that we could try and play well and get two good, high scoring wins to get some confidence and momentum going into this weekend’s conference series at Rogers,” Coats said. “And we did just that which was great.”
Oklahoma Christian University’s bats were the highlight for the Lady Eagles against Lindenwood, taking the first game 15-1 and scoring 11 runs in the third inning – a season high for one inning.
The Lady Eagles recorded 19 hits, Courtney Starr, Haley Squier and Jordan Chism all had 3 of their own.
The next game proved to be closer as the Lynx had leads of 2-0 and 3-2, but Oklahoma Christian held on for the 9-6 win — behind two hits and a homerun from Chism.
Oklahoma Christian began its conference series with a doubleheader at Rogers State on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles recorded a win in second game of the doubleheader, after the Hillcats took game one 7-4 — behind a four RBI day from Rogers State’s Whitney Hamilton and a homerun and 3 RBI from Cailin Simpson.
The second game was highlighted by one big inning from the Lady Eagles’ offense. Their 9-run fourth inning proved to be enough to take the second game 14-7.
A two-run double from Courtney Starr and two-RBI singles from Kendra Pierce and Madison Nordyke charged the explosive fourth inning.
Peirce went 3-4 at the plate, raising her batting average to .524, which is currently leading the league.
Haley Squier earned the pitching win for the Lady Eagles, after four innings of relief.
Head Coach Tom Heath said the two days proved to be helpful and very positive for his team.
“We played four games in two days, which may have been tiring and draining for the girls,” Heath said. “But they played well and to take three wins was very good for our team’s morale, moving on to a tough schedule to end the year.”
Oklahoma Christian faces Rogers State on Friday in Claremore, Oklahoma to determine the winner of the three-game series.
