A strong second day proved to be key as the Oklahoma Christian University women’s golf team took home its second straight tournament title in the Hillcat Classic in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on Monday and Tuesday.
After the first round of play, the Lady Eagles sat in second place with a team total of 337, five strokes behind Midwestern State University. Senior Audrey Meisch stood tied for third individually after the first round of the tournament, five shots behind the leader, with an 81.
India Matthews finished the first round with an 83 and tied for seventh individually, while Allison Sell finished the round with 84 strokes to earn her a tie for 10th. Freshmen Elizabeth Freeman and Kate Goodwin completed the five-person team with an 89 and 92, respectively.
“I think with the conditions we endured the past two days, we did well,” Freeman said. “This course mentally prepared us for anything and bettered our endurance.”
The Lady Eagles cut 21 strokes off their team total in the second day of the tournament, shooting a 316 and clinching the top spot. Sell shot a 73, earning her second place individually, while Meisch’s score of 78 placed third. Matthew finished sixth individually with an 84.
The Lady Eagles will travel to Goodyear, Arizona to compete in the Mustang Intercollegiate on April 2 and 3.
“I expect great things next week from all five of us,” Freeman said.
