A 3-point basket at the buzzer by the University of Arkansas Fort-Smith pushed the Lady Lions past the Oklahoma Christian University women’s basketball team 66-63 on Saturday.
At halftime the Lady Eagles trailed by two, but a 7-0 Oklahoma Christian run in the fourth quarter put the team up 63-61 with one-minute remaining. UAFS tied the game with a layup and put the game away with a last-second 3-pointer.
“I thought that we did a really good job of not backing down,” junior Sarah Parker said. “They’re a really physical team, but we fought back. They like to trap and put a lot of pressure on you and we struggled with that at times.”
Two Lady Eagles finished the game in double digits, Parker and McKenzie Stanford had 16 and 15 points, respectively. Sydney Hill added five assists.
With one week remaining in regular season play, the Lady Eagles are currently ranked fifth in the Heartland Conference with a record of 9-7.
“We aren’t going to get our heads down about this,” Parker said. “There are a lot of things we are still figuring out and that’s going to prepare us for our last stretch of games.”
The Lady Eagles host St. Edward’s University on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
