Oklahoma Christian University’s top two runners, Emory Lobley and Evan Durrill, led the Eagles cross country team at the Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday.

Lobley finished first among Eagle runners, completing the rugged 8,000-meter course with a time of 28:26.2, fast enough to place 47th among the 159-man field. Durrill was not too far behind Lobley, coming in 50th at his time of 28:32.

The freshmen trio of Jake Weith, Trevor Talley and Ben Reed rounded out the Eagles’ top five runners. Weith finished 70th with a time of 29:08.3, while Talley posted a 30:11.09, placing him 105th. Finally, Reed finished 112th with his time of 30:27.2, and Nathan Giles rounded out all Eagle runners with his time of 32:56.2.

Cross Country Head Coach Wade Miller said this race was a great experience for his team to compete with bigger schools, despite the tough course conditions. “It wasn’t a day for fast racing and it’s tough racing at OSU on the heels of a fast course at Missouri Southern,” Miller said. “The guys got some good experience and a chance to challenge themselves and will be better for it.”

Miller said he was pleased with the performance from Lobley and also said he and his men were simply looking to have a good showing and get some good, tough race experience under the belts of the young runners. “On the men’s side we were just looking to get some good race experience and a good test of mental toughness on a hilly course,” Miller said. “Emory Lobley had the best race from our group and has made some good progress from where he was last year.“

Oklahoma Christian will be off until Oct. 10 when part of the team will run at the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational in Shawnee, and the other part of the squad will compete in the Fort Hays State Tiger Open at Sand Plum in Victoria, Kansas.
