Men’s cross-country team sends runners to two weekend meets

The Eagles’ cross country team split up and ran in two separate events on Saturday.

Three of the men ran at the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational and the others ran at the Fort Hays State meet.

“They served as a tune up for the Heartland conference meet in a couple of weeks,” Head Coach Wade Miller said.

As for the group that ran the Fort Hays State meet, the team finished 10th at a tough, competitive meet, Miller said.

Next week, the top six finishers of the Heartland regional meet will advance to the national meet.

According to Miller, Kyle Broaddrick and Timothy Zeurcher shined for the Eagles. Broaddrick was the top finisher individually for the Eagles, placing 38th with his time of 25:34.40 — a career-best time for a 8,000-meter course. Zeurcher ran a career-best as well with his finishing time of 25:41.90.

In between Broaddrick and Zeurcher came Bryant Kierns with his time of 25:37.70, fast enough to place him at 42nd.

As for the small group that ran at Oklahoma Baptist, Redshirt freshman Ben Reed led the three-man team of young Eagles with his time of 27:26.31 — placing 38th. The other two runners were also freshmen – Jake Weith and Trevor Talley. Weith posted a time of 27:50.41, fast enough for a 44th-place finish and Talley came in at 66th with his time of 29:26.18.

The Eagles’ next race is on Oct. 24 at the Heartland Conference championship in Laredo, Texas.
